Restoration of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, Late 20th Century The restoration included cleaning of the copper riza, removal of darkened drying oil and varnish from the painted surface, consolidation of the paint layer, ground application in missing areas, as well as retouching and inpainting in areas of loss.
