Restoration of the Icon of Jesus Christ, Mid-20th Century The icon was received in a heavily darkened state: its surface was almost entirely covered with soot and discoloration caused by prolonged exposure to an open heat source — a hanging candle holder placed in close proximity. During the restoration, a careful cleaning of the paint layer was carried out to remove the soot while preserving the original painting. This was followed by reattachment and consolidation of flaking paint, as well as light retouching in areas of loss. The restoration was completed with the application of a protective varnish. Private collection, size: 30 × 40 cm, 2019
