Over the past few months, I had the chance to work with the wonderful team at CCP on a large restoration project inside the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal. The work was done in several stages: cleaning and stabilizing the surface, filling the losses with a gesso-like putty, retouching the missing painted areas, and applying a protective varnish.
The process was detailed and challenging, especially because the entire paint layer was acrylic — a result of a previous restoration. Over time, in some areas, the acrylic layer had almost completely separated from the wall, which made the work slower and more delicate.
Our team completed the restoration of three ceiling panels on the south side of the nave, 2005
